6 SPICE blends THAT MAKE EVERYTHING TASTE BETTER
My spice cabinet is out of control… and I LOVE it. I’m not kidding—I have an entire cabinet just for spices. I use them for everything because they take meals to another level. A good spice blend can turn basic roasted veggies into something insane, make chicken actually exciting, and take eggs from meh to chef’s kiss.
If you’re not seasoning your food like a pro yet, don’t worry—I’ve got you. Here’s how to match the right spices with different foods + some blends to make your life easier. Let’s spice things up!
BLEND 1:
For Meats (Chicken, Beef, Lamb, etc.)
Best Spices: Paprika, cumin, garlic powder, black pepper, coriander, thyme, sumac, oregano, smoked salt.
Quick Blend:
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp cumin
1/2 tsp oregano
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp salt
(Perfect for grilling, roasting, or seasoning ground meat!)
BLEND 2:
For Fish & Seafood
Best Spices: Lemon zest, dill, sumac, fennel seeds, white pepper, garlic powder.
Quick Blend:
1 tsp lemon zest
½ tsp dill
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
(Sprinkle on salmon, shrimp, or white fish before baking or pan-searing!) faves.
BLEND 3:
For Vegetables
Best Spices: Smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili flakes, za’atar, cumin, turmeric, black pepper
Quick Blend:
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp flaky salt
Black pepper
(Toss with olive oil and roast at 425°F for the best char!)
BLEND 4:
For Grains (Rice, Quinoa, Couscous, etc.)
Best Spices: Turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, bay leaf, saffron, cardamom.
Quick Blend:
1 tsp cumin
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp salt
(Add to rice while cooking for extra depth!)
BLEND 5:
For Eggs
Best Spices: Smoked paprika, black pepper, chili flakes, za’atar, chives.
Quick Blend:
½ tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp chili flakes
Pinch of flaky salt
(Sprinkle over scrambled eggs or avocado toast!)
BLEND 6:
For Salads & Dressings
Best Spices: Sumac, za’atar, dried oregano, chili flakes, mustard powder.
Quick Blend:
1 tsp sumac
½ tsp dried oregano
½ tsp mustard powder
½ tsp salt
(Mix into olive oil + lemon juice for a quick dressing!)
